Honouring the Heroes Who Inspire Us

Not all legends wear jerseys or uniforms, but my father did both.
He was a proud Desert Rat in the army and an incredible footballer who played at professional and semi-professional levels, including for the Armed Forces Team.
One of his most unforgettable moments was scoring a hat-trick on his wedding night—a feat so remarkable it made the local paper. He carried that newspaper clipping in his wallet for the rest of his life, often pulling it out during conversations and flashing a cheeky smile at my mum.
Sadly, in his early 60s, my father was diagnosed with dementia.
Supporting him through this difficult journey opened my eyes to the overwhelming challenges families face when trying to access free NHS care funding — also known as NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC). My family experienced the confusion, frustration and lack of guidance first-hand.
But through determination, I helped secure the free CHC funding he was entitled to, ensuring he received the care he needed until his passing.
A Fathers Legacy
This experience not only shaped my understanding of the challenges families face but also inspired me to use my expertise to help others navigate the NHS Continuing Healthcare process with confidence and compassion.
Today, I channel that personal experience into my work as an Independent Nurse Practitioner.
While I provide CHC advocacy for all, I do hold a special place in my heart for former footballers and British veterans like my dad. Whether on the pitch or the battlefield, their contributions deserve recognition, respect, and compassionate support.
